Initial Session

This first session often involves a review of initial paperwork and collection of additional client information in the form of an informal interview with your therapist. In the care of a child as the client, parents are often interviewed without the child present in the initial session to allow them to freely express their concerns. The facts, experiences and perspectives the therapist gathers from this session lay the foundation for effective and goal-directed therapy.

The intake process helps to obtain a clear focus on past and present concerns, and it allows for collaboration that informs the direction to take in the therapeutic process and treatment planning. Prior to this process you will be given access to a client portal with convenient access to messaging, scheduling, document sharing and invoices. Phone consultations prior to intake are common to address any questions or concerns.

In order to provide a more progressive therapy experience, sessions may involve additional assessments given with your consent and often free of charge. These assessments allow for more accurate decisions in the diagnostic process and determining scientifically verified or evidence-based treatment interventions.
